The Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) returns for its 17th edition from May 20-24, 2025, on Langkawi Island, Malaysia. This biennial event is a unique and unparalleled trade showcase and specialized exhibition for the maritime and aerospace sectors in the Asia-Pacific region, serving as the only exhibition of its kind in the world. LIMA 2025 will offer a platform for defence, commercial, and industrial uses, focusing on innovations vital for the future growth of these industries. LIMA is a key global event significantly contributing to the advancement of the Asia- Pacific defence sector. It's a major stage for unveiling the latest maritime and aerospace technologies, attracting prominent global players, including defence contractors, aerospace firms, and maritime manufacturers. The exhibition highlights cutting-edge innovations and systems, playing a crucial role in shaping the future of the industry. Since its inception in 1991, pioneered by Le Proton Sdn Bhd, LIMA has steadily built its reputation, drawing inspiration from the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh Airshow in the USA with the initial goal of providing a platform for light and experimental aircraft. Over the past 14 years, LIMA has showcased a range of exclusive aircraft, including the Aerospatial TBM 700, Mirage, MIG-29, and F/A-18 fighter, demonstrating its commitment to featuring cutting-edge technology. "As the defence sector evolves and faces new challenges, LIMA will likely adapt and expand in several key areas to meet future demands. LIMA will increasingly focus on showcasing cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, cyber defence, and advanced robotics," remarked Abd Hafiz bin A Bakar, Managing Director of LIMA. LIMA 2025 aligns with the Malaysian Defence Forces' focus on the Defence White Paper 2030, which aims to enhance assets for Land, Sea, and Air operations. The vision emphasizes accelerating innovation in defence to achieve maximum protection while minimizing costs, including integrating solutions with existing defence systems. Upscaling resources through modern IoT solutions and related education is another significant investment, intended to produce highly skilled personnel in the Malaysian Armed Forces. This involves upgrading assets for Maritime and Air Force defence and integrating existing systems and assets with enhanced capabilities. Specifically, this includes upgrading utility helicopters to support Land, Sea, and Air defence operations; identifying suitable combat helicopters for deployment in West and East Malaysia, including those with capabilities for island and coast guard missions; sourcing appropriate Generation 5 aircraft compatible with the Malaysian landscape; and upgrading naval vessels from standard Coast Guard capabilities to support heavy defensive missions. LIMA 2025 promises to be a pivotal event, showcasing the latest advancements and fostering collaboration within the maritime and aerospace industries.
